communities

Biwater Treatment is committed to being a socially responsible business that will continue to contribute to the communities in which we operate at both site and office locations. Our policy is to minimise the impact of our activities on local communities whilst at the same time making a lasting contribution to society.

Biwater supports three key areas that are specific to the nature of our operations and expertise.

They are:

1. Protection and improvement of the natural environment;
2. Education of people in the local and wider communities;
3. Health, safety and wellbeing in local and international contexts.

The company’s values for communities, taken from the Strategic Business Plan 2008/09, are to:

• Consult stakeholders;
• Work alongside communities;
• Source solutions respecting other people’s views.

Considerate Constructors Scheme

Biwater has been adopting the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) since August 2000. CCS is managed by the Construction Industry Board and aims to improve the image of construction. For adoption into the CCS, sites must show that they comply with the CCS Code of Conduct to be considerate, to minimise environmental impact, to maintain a high standard of cleanliness, to be a good neighbour and to be respectful, safe, responsible and accountable for their actions.

Biwater adopt this scheme on sites with a duration of more than 9 months and in a location that is likely to impact upon the local community and environment. Due to the importance of the scheme Biwater, has developed a company wide CCS Policy Statement and produces plans, induction cards for the sites and provides training whilst developing relationships with the local community.
