Project Summary

The project involved the installation of additional modular sand filters and replacement inlet screens in order to meet the increased/future flows.

A chemical dosing unit and flocculation mixer were installed in order to achieve the new phosphate consent of 2 mg/l.

Capital maintenance modifications were also made to washwater booster pumps, works return pumps and sludge pumps in order to prevent the downstream process suffering blockages.

Project Scope

  • Chemical dosing unit
  • Mixing chamber
  • Replacement screens
  • Washwater booster pumps
  • Sludge pump
  • Nine modular sand filters
  • Filter feed pumps
  • Works return pumps
  • Motor control centre modifications
  • Site lighting
  • Roads and footpaths

Added Value/Benefits

Replacement screens now prevent the downstream process suffering blockages and reduce the maintenance requirements on site.

Replacing the sludge pump with a larger size pump has reduced the amount of blockages and reduces the maintenance requirements on site.

Increased performance of sand filters and has resulted in compliance with the new consent.

The new works return pumps provide additional capacity and therefore reduce the risk of discharge into the final effluent outfall.

  • The chemical dosing system was installed ‘offline’ with minimal impact on Severn Trent Operations.
  • New screen bypass was designed to take full pump flow in the event of all of the screens blinding
  • Additional washwater capacity provided along with new wash down points.
