Project Summary:
Barlestone sewage treatment works is located in the village of Barlestone, Leicestershire. The existing site was upgraded in order to meet a more stringent discharge consent. This was achieved by installing a tertiary treatment sandfilter to treat a portion of flows fed by the new sandfilter feed and recirculation pumping station.
Treated effluent from the sandfilter gravitates to a chamber where it combines with humus effluent from the sandfilter feed and recirculation pumping station.
Combined flows gravitate to the local water course via the final effluent sampling chamber.
Project Scope
- Tertiary treatment sand filter
- Sand filter and effluent recirculation pumping station
- Works return pump
- New motor control centre
- Site lighting
- Roads and footpaths
Added Value/Benefits
The overall scheme benefits to Severn Trent were that the new plant provided less suspended solids in the final effluent in order to meet the consent.
The humus tank effluent is recirculated back to the bacteria beds in low flow periods.
Renewal of existing assets provide Severn Trent with a more reliable plant that incurs less operational and maintenance costs.
The success of the scheme relied heavily on good team relationships with Pick Everard and Severn Trent operations throughout.
All commissioning, turn of flow and substantial completion dates were met.
