Apprentices

Catherine Hitchen

Biwater Treatment is part of a leading water and wastewater business which develops and delivers solutions and services to a wide client base across the world.

We take on new apprentices every year to train as our engineers of the future. Engineers use imagination, judgment, reasoning and experience to apply science, technology, mathematics and practical experience.
All our apprentices need to have a positive attitude to work and a keen interest in engineering along with a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above.

We offer four year apprenticeships. The first year will be spent working with trainees from other companies at Rochdale Training Association to learn basic hands-on skills of engineering. Following on from the first year you will work in our Heywood office amongst teams of engineers and rotate through different departments widening your knowledge of the organisation. Studies will continue through a day release scheme where apprentices will be expected to achieve the following:

NVQ Level 4
ONC in engineering (2 yrs part time)
HNC in engineering (2 yrs part time)

Dependant on results and performance the opportunity to study for an engineering degree may be available.

I joined Biwater Treatment on the Graduate Rotation Scheme having gained an MSc in Pollution and Environmental Control. The rotation scheme meant that over the next year and a half I gained an insight into a variety of aspects of the business. I worked on the development of projects, as an assistant process scientist aiding in the design of treatment works and even as an on-site chemist carrying out various performance tests to ensure that the works met the required standards.
